The Real Work - Poem by Wendell Berry

It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come our real work,

and that when we no longer know which way to go
we have come to our real journey.

The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.

From past participants:

I got a huge amount from this weekend – one of the best of its type – and I’ve been to a lot!

To have clarity of purpose is the the greatest gift for the compass of one’s life

I’ve been aching for something like this all my life

 The Mandala Way

These are most extraordinary and uncertain times. The assumptions, certainties and narratives that have informed our lives for millennia are beginning to fray apart, we can easily feel inadequate and overwhelmed. At times of crisis, is it still possible to find purpose and a meaning? Can we find an attitude of lyrical creativity within the impending chaos?

Everything that makes up the universe is a constant flux of change – nothing has fixed identity. However, a unique characteristic that defines human nature is our capacity to construct, over the raw experience of life ’stories‘and narratives; fictions that we tell ourselves; be they stories on the level of the collective or the individual plane. However, these stories are not ‘true’. They are fictitious works of the imagination. They are a way of resolving, editing and simplifying the complex nature of raw experience into a more manageable form.

In our imaginations, through the story making process, we begin to fix things, we fix ourselves and also others within the web of our story telling. We stop seeing the elements of our lives as dynamic mutable processes. We also close down to a vast range of possibilities that might lie outside of our current frame of our imagining. Therefore these other possibilities are not accessible to us. We live in a world of diminished understanding. At times of crisis, when the filaments that make up the web of our stories begin to fray, can also be times in which  new and life enhancing possibilities beyond the limits of our current knowing an present themselves.

So how do we transcend our limiting narratives and replace them with more open, skilful and creative narratives? Might there also be the possibility of transcending narratives altogether, allowing us to simply dance with the constant flux of change without he need to try to tie it all down within a story?

We would like to invite you to explore the Mandala Way

  • The mandala way is non-prescriptive and an emergent approach to living life.

  • This is a new adaptation of the essential principles, based on the traditional Mandala.

  • provides a simple set of principles to navigate through life, allowing us to choose the most skilful road to follow at life’s many cross roads. It is especially helpful at times of crises.

  • By the gradual accumulation of skilful choices. Your Life can start to become firstly aligned, then an expression of and finally an embodiment of our deepest values.

  • Our embodied values can become our gift to the universe

  • It is subtle yet very simple and effective

We invite you to create and then enter your own personal mandala. Your mandala assumes you are the expert in your own deepest nature. The process reveals your own unique tailormade path between your Hearts Soul possibilities and the World; possibilities, which hold deep purpose, meaning and value for you. Once you have identified and metabolised your deepest core values. You then have a touch stone by which evaluate every life choice. This a allows you to live ever more congruently, as an expression and an embodiment of your Deepest Purpose.

You may find when you become deeply attuned to your deepest values and have withstood the discomfort of not knowing how the process will play out -This is not an easy path!  – that the world can start to present an abundance of unique and (from your current perspective) unimaginable forms in which your deepest purpose might evolve. The world may even start to present strange and unlikely coincidences and synchronicities. 'All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.'

As your life becomes ever more an expression of your Soul possibiites – to that extent, these embodied positive qualities start to become integrated and embodied into the fabric of your life and they can become, evermore your unique and powerful gift to the universe.

But does it work? We know this process works. For 25 years Sagaravajra and Kerry Ann for a little less time have been living and teaching the Mandala way. A flavour of this journey can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmkGrWN7odk) The evolution of Hridayabija, is both the result and an expression of these principles https://www.hridayabija.com/) These principles are also at the heart of the culture and the way in which we live. It is in part our response to the current crisis of the world. It is a constant roller coaster ride; the process constantly surprises us -and we constantly realise what we are doing here goes much deeper and further and is more mysterious than we originally could have imagined. We have to again and agian stand aside from our expectations and to surrender and serve wherever the journey will take us next.
