Organised by the Politics of Culture and Memory Cluster in collaboration with the Co-Creation project, this workshop aims to familiarise participants with Co-Creation methodologies through a participative collage activity which will aim to disrupt whitewashed narratives of Bath to draw attention on the city’s inequalities. It will use comparisons with remote cities to reflect on the concepts of the cohesive city, prejudice, disadvantage and stigmatisation to share views on and visions for Bath as a cohesive city. Participants are encouraged to bring their own drawings, photographs or newspaper cutting representing issues of inequality they identified and seek to voice. Other art materials and refreshments will be provided.

This workshop is part of the exhibition Co-Creating Cohesive Cities, which experiments with methods combining art and research to address urban inequalities, segregation and stigmatisation in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. It incorporates texts, images and videos from Co-Creation workshops conducted by academics from the University of Bath in collaboration with artists, NGOs, researchers and communities from Europe and Latin-America. It retraces narratives of those living in peripheral communities in Iztapalapa (Mexico City), the favela Santa-Marta (Rio de Janeiro) and Saint-Denis (Greater Paris).

Presented as a work in progress, this showcases outcomes from a four-year research project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 734770. The project involves universities and NGOs in Europe, Mexico and Brazil, including a team of researchers from the University of Bath (departments of PoLIS, Health and Education).
