Exploring Conflict Through Art

Exploring Conflict Through Art

Posted on behalf of University of Bath

With Dr Oliver Walton, Mrs Hannah West and Dr Zainab Mai-Bornu, Department of Social and Policy Sciences, University of Bath.

This panel brings together a diverse group of scholars who have all employed a range of  creative methods - illustration, music and poetry to photography and participatory film - to explore conflict and conflict-affected societies. The event will showcase research on diverse themes including borderlands and post-war transitions in Nepal and Sri Lanka, gender and  the military, resource conflict in the Niger delta, and artisanal mining in West Africa.

We will explore what creative methodologies reveal that we might not have otherwise seen and how it enables us to engage with different audiences as well as the practicalities of collaborating with creative practitioners. Each panellist will talk about their research, why they were drawn to these methodologies and what challenges they have encountered in adopting this practice.
