Refugee Valentine 2019

Refugee Valentine 2019

Posted on behalf of Sussex Refugee and Migrant Self Support Group

Heyup!

LOVE is in the air!

'Refugee Valentine' is organized on the 14th of February 2019 from 7pm to 11pm, by Brighton Migrant Solidarity (BMS), T4K and Sussex Refugee and Migrant Self Support Group (SRMSSG) to celebrate love and celebrate diversity.

We have a line up of local refugee and migrant bands bringing the music of their international origins to create a night that defies categorization as either global or local.

Headlined by:
1) Bakk Lamp Fall: West African Fusion - with roots in Baye Fall Sufism from Touba (Senegal). The line-up of the band comprises outstanding West-African percussion accompanied by an ensemble of eminent UK instrumentalists, topped with the awesome vocal power of their Senegalese singer Khadim Sarr.

2) tAngerinecAt: Queer Anarchist Feminist Band. Raw powerful cinematic electronica with punk attitude. Stunning lead hurdy-gurdy with effect pedals, fierce yet tender vocals, personal political lyrics, floaty flutes, massive drone bass and DIY samples seamlessly combine with industrial-rave beats in an utterly captivating show.
A collaboration between Ukrainian born Eugene Purpurovsky and English born Paul Chilton.

Organisers Objective.
SRMSSG, BMS, and T4K believe Love transcends borders. The authorities throw up barriers to divide communities into homogeneous societies of ‘us’ and ‘them’. Refugees are people who have already crossed borders to find love in new communities. They can show the rest of us the way to transcend difference. The border makes refugees the Other, but love thrives on difference. Refugee Valentine celebrates love and celebrates diversity. It’s our differences that bring us together. Refugee Valentines will take love beyond monogamous pair bonding to begin rebuilding a community that celebrates difference.

This is why we would like you to join us on the 14th of February and celebrate different shades of your LOVE with us. It’s our differences that bring us together.

Refugee Valentine will take love beyond monogamous pairings to begin rebuilding a community that celebrates difference.

LOVE IS POLITICAL.

LOVE MORE.

See you all!
