Grandma, remember me?

Posted on behalf of School of Health and Social Care

Part 1: Grandma, remember me?

Time: 11:00-12:20

Location: Lakeside Theatre

Available to anyone.

Written from the perspective of a young child, Lilly, the play explores the changing relationship between Lilly and her Grandma, who is developing Alzheimer’s. It covers a journey from Lilly’s initial recognition that something is changing with her Grandma, through the unfolding challenges and final acceptance and understanding of the disease.

Through a powerful, deeply moving narrative, the play raises awareness and understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, supports early intervention and emphasises the importance of memories and relationships within our lives.

Part 2: Reflective Workshop: Using today’s experience to enrich your practice

Time: 13:30-16:30

Location: The Hexagon

Available only to University of Essex students who have attended the morning performance of Grandma, remember me?

Following the performance ‘Grandma Remember Me’ we invite students to participate in a creative reflective workshop. This workshop contributes to your lifelong learning experience, supporting you to reflect on your practice, and enhancing how you respond to the diverse needs of patients and/or clients and their families.

Through facilitated group work you will explore what dementia means to you, challenge some common misconceptions and reflect on what we can learn from the experiences of people living with dementia.
