Thirteen Reasons Why Not

Thirteen Reasons Why Not

Posted on behalf of Grace Durbin

'Thirteen Reasons Why Not' is an original piece written and directed by University of Essex student Grace Durbin, exploring the theme of mental health in young people, and the ways in which we can build our resilience towards stigma and build an understanding towards such a matter. We follow the journey of the protagonist in developing her understanding as to why people are sad, and the ways in which she helps herself to stay happy. This monologue-based piece, intertwined with movement and techincal theatre hope to encourage an optimism towards the stability of today's youth.

This is a work in progress piece, in development towards a performance at the Ubumuntu Arts Festival in Rwanda in July. The piece will run for approximately 30 minutes, and will be followed by a short Q&A with Grace and actress, Francesca Gray, followed by a short evaluation form that the audience will be requested to complete.
