Posted on behalf of Mid Downs Training Hub

This afternoon is open to all non-clinical staff.

The session will start with a light lunch from 13.00, with the training starting at 13.30.

The afternoon will be led by the Mental Health charity, MIND, and supported by a representative from Surrey Information Point, to raise awareness of local services.

Lesson Aims:

This session will help those working in surgeries understand mental health, and the practical ways that it is possible to protect and support ourselves, and those around us, to reduce the risk of conditions emerging or worsening. It will cover an overview of some key mental health related conditions and also some signposting and referral options.

Learning outcomesBy the end of the session all learners should be able to:

  • Explain some of the factors that cause mental health issues, and the main features of those conditions.

  • Understand some of the practical ways that it is possible to prevent and manage mental health issues.

  • Identify some signposting opportunities related to mental health and emotional wellbeing.

  • Relate the training to their own lived experience of mental health issues.

  • Identify further training in mental health which they would benefit from and would support their role.

  • Outline positive approaches which support people with mental health issues to talk about their situation.

There will be a chance to hear about different services across the area, what they offer, and how to refer patients.
