Hospice Care Hero Walk

Hospice Care Hero Walk

Overthe last twelve years the Bath Moonlight Walk has raised over £1m in funds tosupport patient care at local hospice, Dorothy House. This year, theevent has been reinvigorated with a superhero injection! The Hospice Care Hero Walk aims to make theevent fit for the future and to help the Hospice fund more care.

TheHospice Care Hero Walk takes place on Saturday7 September from 6pm in the stunning grounds of the Newton Park, Bath SpaUniversity Campus with lakes, a castle and beautiful views. Participants canchoose a 1km, 5km or 10km route that passes through exciting hero-themed zones.Dress up as your favourite superhero, use the walk to remember a special heroin your life or walk to celebrate the heroes providing care at Dorothy House.

Allwalkers get a surprise free gift and after the walk there will be asuperhero-themed party with music, delicious food and drinks. It’s the chance for walkers and volunteersalike to celebrate together!

Gettingsponsored to take part makes a massive difference to patient care. £28 could pay for an hour’s time of a NurseSpecialist, delivering care to patients in our community. £180 could pay for a full night of a Hospiceat Home carer’s time, allowing a patient’s family to get some much-needed rest. Or why not get a team together and setyourself a goal of raising £2500 all together and this could provide 24 hoursof nursing and health care assistant’s time on our Inpatient Unit.

Ourwork touches so many lives and is completely free of charge. Without heroeslike you, Dorothy House Hospice Care simply couldn’t operate. Our goal is tohelp more people and deliver care when it’s really needed by patients and theirfamilies.

Dorothy House Hospice Care

Dorothy House Hospice Care is a leading, independent charity and in 2017 was awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), placing it in the top 6% of adult social care providers nationally. DHHC provides free, palliative and end of life care from early diagnosis and operates across 700 square miles, serving a population of 550,000 people. We are a key provider of services for Bath and North-East Somerset (BaNES), Wiltshire, and Somerset Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Specialists in complex palliative and end of life care, DHHC aims to pioneer its delivery of best practice care and support, tailored to the needs of patients with life-limiting illness, their families and carers.

The majority of our care is delivered in the home and the community including our Nurse Specialist teams working in partnership with GPs, a growing Hospice at Home Service and support through our Outreach Centres and 1,300-strong volunteer network. DHHC also provides inpatient care, pre-and post-bereavement support, rehabilitation programmes, complementary, creative therapies and more.

Our aim is to equip individuals and communities with the knowledge and skills to respond to life-limiting illnesses with dignity, compassion and - above all - humanity. Education and training are at the forefront of this work: We run programmes and events for health and social care professionals, and increasingly, the wider community around death and dying.

Providing our services requires significant funds and for every £1 from the NHS, we have to raise £4. We do this through our work in fundraising, our 28 shops and education programmes. www.dorothyhouse.org.uk
