About Garnock Connections

Garnock Connections is a suite of 25 projects that will restore a network of wildlife habitats and historic sites across the landscape, as well as encourage local people to become involved through public engagement opportunities.

The initiative will be coordinated by the Garnock Connections Landscape Partnership, which is made up of RSPB Scotland (lead partner), North Ayrshire Council, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), and the Scottish Wildlife Trust, with Historic Environment Scotland (HES) acting as an advisory body.

Garnock Connections has been supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Pollinator ID Training day

A free workshop on an introduction to pollinating insects!

Pollinators are vital in the production of many of our fruits including apples and strawberries, many of them are also visually very attractive. There are over 4,000 species of pollinating insects in the UK and this includes bees, flies, butterflies, moths and beetles! This free workshop is an opportunity to learn more about the diversity of pollinators, identification of some of the commonly seen species and how to survey and monitor them using Flower-Insect-Timed Counts.

Led by Scotland's Manager for Buglife, Suzanne Burgess, you'll have the opportunity to learn in an engaging way and put your new skills to the test!

This event will include both indoor and outdoor activities, with fieldwork in the afternoon taking place at Gailes Marsh. Please bring along your lunch, sturdy footwear and warm clothes. If you have a hand lens or any insect guides please feel free to bring them along on the day.
