Maybury and Sheerwater Community Trust

The Maybury and Sheerwater Comunity Trust is a charity set up by St.Paul's Church, Maybury, and St.Michael's Church, Sheerwater. We set up in 2011 and spent the first year getting ourselves organised long-term, seeking to understand both the local needs and the local assets. We started a series of termly inter-agency lunches where all the local support agencies (schools, doctors, police, social services, support organisations, councillors, churches, etc) could meet up to understand what they are each doing and how they can work together. We carried out surveys of local residents both what they valued and what they would like to see differently - although identifying opportunities is a continuous task.

We set up a hub in Sheerwater, which opened in February 2014, to act as a drop-in centre and as a base from which a wide variety of different activities can take place. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays the Mascot Hub runs different sessions including a career cafe', English tuition, foodbank, computer club, hearing aid maintenance and an art club. On these days the hub is also open as a free internet cafe' with printing facilities, it serves as a signposting service and a place to receive general advice - and if we can't help we'll point you in the direction of someone who can. The hub is also available for organisations who want to run a project in Sheerwater.

In 2015, we also started to focus on Maybury, deliberately taking a different approach that didn't require dedicated premises, but using the Community Halls attached to St.Paul's and the local primary school. Regular seated dance classes take place as well as a Conversational Cafe' for those looking to practice English between official classes.

We are really grateful for the support of Woking Borough Council and for the time and effort given by all our volunteers, and with our presence in the Maybury and Sheewater area we hope to strengthen the local community. If you would like more information or would like to get involved please contact Martin Smith (Maybury area) at or on 01483 772081 or contact Eddy Valletta (Sheerwater area) at or on 01932 988160.
