Climate Crisis - a megagame

Posted on behalf of Crisis Games

Can you help solve the Climate Crisis? In this game players take part as teams representing nations, global corporations and the United Nations. The aim of the game is to bring predicted climate change to 2 degrees or lowerl. Nations must also consider their economy and the geo-political situation, while corporations must bear in mind the concerns of their shareholders.

If you enjoy Risk or other strategic boardgames, or you want to practice your negotiation skills, or you just want to be president or prime minister for a day (well, an afternoon) then come along and play.

The game has a serious intent as well. By playing you will gain insight into the difficulties of climate change negotiations and policy-making.

FAQs

What is a megagame?

Megagames are exciting, social game events in which the participants are organised into teams. Simple game mechanics encourage player interaction and the game runs to a strict timetable.

Do I need to study any rules or background before the game?

The game mechanics are very simple to pick up on the day of the game and any background material is also brief and can be easily absorbed on the day, so there are no requirements to do any reading or research before the game. In addition, there will be a tutorial about the major mechanics of the game before the game begine. Having said that, we are happy to send any game material out to players before the game if they request it.

Is there an age limit to enter the event?

In general, the minumum age limit is 18 years of age. However, the game does not contain themes or images that would be unsuitable for young adults. For players younger than 18 we have to be satisfied that they will be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult throughout the day. If you are reserving tickets for someone who is below 18 please contact us so that we can confirm with you that they will accompanied by a guardian throughout the event.

What restrictions on accessibilty does the venue have?

The venue is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Please contact us if you have accessibility requirements.

Norwich Film Festival: Withnail and I (15)

Posted on behalf of Norwich Film Festival
Synopsis: Bruce Robinson's celebrated cult comedy starring Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann. It's the end of the 1960s and two out-of-work actors, Withnail (Grant) and 'I' (McGann), subsist on a diet of booze, drugs and fags in their revolting Camden flat. In order to escape the depressing nexus of visits from their dealer and the months of untouched washing-up, they escape to the country, with the intention of getting some R and R at a cottage owned by Withnail's uncle Monty (Richard Griffiths). However, things do not exactly go as planned, Withnail being particularly unsuited to the quiet social mores of countrypeople. The pair's friendship starts to become sorely tested amid the vicissitudes of their 'holiday'. More ominously, uncle Monty appears in person seemingly with something of an eye for 'I'.

This screening will be a ‘pay what you can afford’ event, meaning that the tickets are absolutely free to book. At the venue we will have a donations bucket and if you can afford to pay anything up to the price of a ticket we will gratefully accept it, however, if you can’t afford anything at this time, you are still more than welcome to join us for the film.

Who is controlling the shutter? Privacy and photography

Posted on behalf of Holly Hancock

Today we are all photographers.  The advent of smartphones means that everyone has access to a camera, and photography is an essential part of everyday life.  Snapping a photograph is second nature, but should we be giving more thought as to what happens to that image?  In England, we are in both a privileged and challenging position, where an individual who is photographed has very limited rights over that image.  This means that a huge amount of power over what happens to the image rests with the photographer.  Add to the equation privacy considerations, and we are faced with a complicated minefield, which can be difficult for photographers to negotiate.  This interactive discussion will explore the legal, moral and ethical dilemmas of photography.  It is suitable for all types of photographer - come and listen - you are welcome to join in the lively debate and share your ideas!  Refreshments will be provided.
