Kingston Vale care home nominated for national award

A care home in Kingston Vale is celebrating havingbeen nominated in the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities categoryin a national care award.

The Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellenceand innovation for UK care home management, operation and delivery.

Care UK’s Sherwood Grange, on Robin Hood Lane, is afinalist in the Best for Sporting, Social or Leisure Activities category at theCare Home Awards, thanks to the impressive range of activities on offer toresidents at the home which incorporate trips that utilise both local places ofinterest, the museums Central London has to offer and trips to the surroundingarea including Portsmouth, Poole and the coast.

The Lifestyle teamwork tirelessly to develop, amongst other activities, Thames river boat cruises,a Bonfire Night cruise to watch firework displays, trips to Brick Lane Music Hallshows, theatre, pantomime and cultural events such as Chinese Extravaganzaperformances and Indian Bollywood performances, plus talks from local peoplelinked to residents’ interests and visits to the Imperial War Museum and RAFHendon. They even took a gentleman’s group for a Boys & Toys visit to theExcel exhibition centre to see the amazing Motorcycle Show. The Lifestyle teammotto is “if you would like to do it, we can arrange it” and work consistentlyto listen to and access residents previous interests and hobbies in order totailor trips to encompass these particular themes.

One extremelysuccessful initiative, piloted by Sherwood Grange in 2018, was a home swap withanother Care UK home in Dorset, to allow residents to enjoy a holiday away fromhome.

Sherwood Grange also wonCare UK’s RCS Meaningful Lifestyle Award in December 2018. The judges said:“The lifestyle team is a huge asset to Sherwood Grange. Family members believe theteam has added years to their loved ones’ lives and helped them to discover awhole new lease of life.”
