The Essex Archive Project with Maeve O Neill

The Essex Archive Project with Maeve O Neill

Posted on behalf of South Kiosk

This workshop invites participants to bring historical photographs, negatives and printed ephemera from their personal collections to be digitised and preserved at The Old Waterworks. Participants will be guided through the digitisation process using flatbed scanners which will be provided by the gallery. The participants will then have the opportunity to manipulate and print their material in order to collectively build a collage installation lead artist Maeve O’Neill.

The aim of this workshop is to create a resource of local vernacular history in digital formats that can be easily preserved, reprinted, and shared online, making them available and accessible to future generations.

The collective building of the installation is intended to act as a catalyst for participants to reflect on the lost and forgotten past of Southend, in turn creating a work that encapsulates the diverse history of the local area.
