About Windlesham Field of Remembrance

Windlesham Field of Remembrance is a community space in the heart of Windlesham. It is owned, run and maintained by Windlesham Village and provides a safe green space for everyone to enjoy. There is a modern children's play park (gated for security), football and cricket pitches, fantastic woodland and a pond. The current pavillion is due to be demolished and replaced with a fantastic new community space in the near future.

Fundraising with Lightwater Co-op

Windlesham FoR Pavilion Project has been chosen as one of the local causes supported by Lightwater Co-op over the next 11 months. If you have a Co-op loyalty/membership card you can pick WFoR as your chosen cause. This will mean 1% of what you spend (on selected own-brand products and services) will go into the WFoR fund automatically.

Simply log in to your Co-op membership account, scroll down to "Your Co-op community" and select Windlesham FoR from the options. As always, we love it when you share our news with friends, family and neighbours so please feel free to forward this email on to anyone you know who shops at Lightwater Co-op.

Centenary Field Dedication

It was a huge honour for us on Saturday 11th November to formally unveil our dedication as a Fields in Trust Centenary Field! The Windlesham Field of Remembrance is not only a dedicated space to remember the sacrifices of those who gave their lives during the WWI conflict, but also ensures that future generations have valuable green spaceto enjoy as a living legacy.

Thanks go to the Mayor of Surrey Heath Cllr. Valerie White, who joined us for the official unveiling. Valerie also gave up her time the day before, to come along for a dress rehearsal and to enable That'sSurreyTV to make a film for us. You can view the film right here!

Just a few days left to help us win up to £25,000!

There are just a few days left to vote for us in the Aviva Community Fund initiative.

In case you haven't had a chance to visit the existing pavilion recently, That'sTV braved the building on your behalf to give you a look at why the new building is so desperately needed. If you are brave enough, please take a quick look at the footage.

More details about the project and how to vote are on the Aviva page which you can find HERE or

Anyone can register to vote - please do forward this email to friends and family, and ask them to vote as well.

We are almost at 4000 votes but still need more to guarantee a spot in front of the judging panel.

Thank you!

WFor and Fields in Trust

HRH The Duke of Cambridge (Fields in Trust President) launched the Centenary Fields programme in 2014. The Trustees are delighted to announce that Windlesham Field of Remembrance has been recognised as part of this programme and, alongside it's status as a Remembrance Field, has now been dedicated as a Centenary Field.

Delivered in partnership with The Royal British Legion, this is a fitting way to commemorate the World War I centenary and importantly, protects the Field of Remembrance in perpetuity for the benefit of the future generations of Windlesham.

We will be marking the dedication at the end of the annual Remembrance Day service on Saturday 11th November with the local branch of the Royal British Legion. Please feel free to come along and mark this occasion with us. Tea and coffee will be available before and after the ceremony.

Green Flag Community Award Winners for the second year in a row!

The Windlesham Field of Remembrance in Windlesham, Surrey has been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best in the world.

The field is among a record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and green spaces that will today receive a Green FlagCommunity Award – the mark of a quality park or green space. This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards and is beautifully maintained.

The Windlesham Field of Remembrance was established in 1950 when it was purchased by public donations. The woodland was purchased in 1987 and the site now totals 18 acres in size. The Field is still owned by village and is managed by a dedicated committee of volunteer trustees.

Chair of Trustees Suzanne Sharman said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for the second year running. “We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining Windlesham FoR to such a high standard. The award means a great deal to the Windlesham Community who continue to be responsible for the funding, management and maintenance of The Field"

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme. “Each flag is a celebration of the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. The success of the scheme, especially in these challenging times, demonstrates just how much parks matter to people.”
